Opportunity

For those that can be bothered, the Caledonian Brewery is having a couple of "Meet the Brewery" events hosted by Wetherspoons in Glasgow and Edinburgh next week (see calendar in the sidebar). A chance to maybe use up those CAMRA vouchers and ask the brewery reps if they have any plans to sack the pipe band and spend the money on buying some bloody hops.

  2. It seems to have recently regained most of the hoppiness it had lost for the past couple of years – I am more generous about it in a forthcoming post.

  3. Deuchars ceased to be a beer when it became a brand. Make it easy drinking (take away any unique feature like flavour) and Joe Average will keep buying.
    Shame - used to be where Hophead is today.

  4. I don't agree with that. What I found so great about Deuchars was that it was massively popular while still being a proper beer with plenty of character. That's why it was so sad to see it dumbed down in flavour.

  5. You miss the point. A beer can be massively popular without being a brand. For Deuchars the change came with the marketing budget to support a drive into England. That seemed to coincide with the 'product' losing its uniqueness (read flavour).
